Protecting Our Patients Against H1N1 Influenza

Protecting Our Patients Against H1N1 Influenza
Kaye Qureshi, R.N Infection Control, Employee Health Coordinator

Novel H1N1 flu has spread rapidly in. Unlike seasonal flu, which seems to thrive in cold weather, novel H1N1 has flourished in the southern heat and humidity.

Within five months of our state’s first confirmed case, thousands of has tested positive for the new strain of flu. Some had to be hospitalized. A few people, including children, have died from complications of novel H1N1 flu. Most of those who died were in one of the high risk groups of H1N1, which are not the same as the high risk groups for seasonal flu.

Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something – such as as surface or object- with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

MPH has launched a massive flu vaccine for our staff, which includes the seasonal and H1N1 Vaccine. Not only to protect our staff but to protect our patients and visitors. Staff are also monitored for proper hand hygiene. If unsure, please do not hesitate to ask staff for hand hygiene compliance.

In our fight against spreading influenza in our Hospital or Community. MPH is asking for all patients who present to the Hospital with (Influenza Like Illness) to ask staff for a mask upon arrival, cover your cough or sneezes and to use the Hand Hygiene Gel which is located through out the Hospital.

MPH is also asking to limit visitors 18 years or younger during the flu season. Stay home if you are sick with flu like symptoms.

With your help along with the staff of MPH. You can help protect our patients against this virus.

We at MPH are committed to protect our patients and provide Quality Care to our Customers.

MPH Patients, Staff and Myself would like to thank you in advance in helping prevent the spread of the virus in our Hospital and Community.
