Environmental Services Improvements Battle Hospital Infections

The Environmental Service Department’s latest improvement to reduce the transmission of hospital –related infection is the EnMotion automated touchless dispensing equipment for paper towels. The new units will improve hygiene, lower the risk of cross-contamination, reduce the towel usage and decrease operation expense.

Tony Sheffield, REH, AAS, BA, Director of Environmental Services and his team of employees help in holding hospital acquired infections to a rate of less than 1% at Marlboro Park Hospital. During the current health crisis with the H1N1 swine outbreak, the Quik-Care waterless antimicrobial hand sanitizer is located in every patient room, and work station throughout the building. The new automated touchless dispensing equipment will help reduce the risk of infection further. Hand washing is the number one defense against the flu. With hand washing on the increase by the public, every amount of waste that we reduce will make an impact.

The en-Motion dispenser helps achieve the priority of source reduction by reducing paper towel usage by up to 30 percent. Reducing waste is the most important measure of going green. The less trash that goes to the landfills the more environmental friendly the hospital becomes.
